The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, is inaugurated as part of a 42-kilometer cycle route that runs through the capital.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

Inauguration of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) and hundreds more cyclists.

Jerusalem was a desirable tourist destination due to its glorious past. Elkin explained that today along with its historical treasures, the tunnel project also incorporates modern-day tourism.  נווה פריצקי "The inauguration (of this tunnel project) is a further step in the expansion of Jerusalem as well as it's transformation into a sought-after tourist destination for all kinds of visitors across Israel and around the world."

Around NIS 25 million was earmarked in the project, financed by the Elkin's Ministry The Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, as well as the work done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin said that the Kerem Tunnel project is an important tool in realizing the goal to change the way of thinking and transport throughout Jerusalem. "The new tunnel, which is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing cycle routes within the city and are being constructed in its diverse neighborhoods. It's designed to encourage bicycle riding among its residents, and also to encourage an environmentally sustainable transportation system in Jerusalem."

Road construction installation, blowers, sophisticated safety systems , and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the present construction. The tunnel is safe for the public to use throughout the year.
